Key Responsibilities
- Assess and process high-value life insurance applications using financial and medical underwriting guidelines.
- Make accurate decisions on policy issuance, ratings, or repudiations based on risk evaluation.
- Manage and mentor a team of junior underwriters to ensure high productivity and quality standards.
- Collaborate with the Reinsurance and Claims teams to refine underwriting philosophies.
- Interact with the medical panel and external diagnostic centers to verify applicant data.
- Ensure strict adherence to IRDAI guidelines and internal compliance policies.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as TAT and quality scores.
- Provide technical training to sales and distribution channels on underwriting requirements.
- Identify and mitigate potential anti-selection and fraud risks during the assessment process.
- Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to enhance operational efficiency.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Graduate/Post Graduate (Medical or Science background preferred).
- 5 to 8 years of experience in Life Insurance underwriting.
- Proficiency in digital underwriting platforms and MS Office tools.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex medical reports.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with sales channels and external partners.
